THE WEEK THAT WAS / NFL Playoffs: Second Round
With commentary by Tim

Hot off the presses, the early edition TMW play-by-play ratings for your perusal from the most recent week of this festive NFL season. For those new to the numbers read the following:

  • PSR: Play Success Rate - every play is graded as either a success or failure
  • Big: percentage of plays that went for big gains...10+ yards for a run, 20+ for a pass
  • Yds: adjusted yards per play, including penalties and excluding non-plays
  • EFR: Effectiveness rating. One number overall summary.
  • Stats Score: This is the projected score the TMW computer would have spit out if the stats for the game were the numbers coming in. This column lets us know who "should" have won.

Wee-ell, we came mighty close to the Wrong Team winning this one, but as fate would have it, the Steel-O's did advance. Turnovers galore for Pitt almost were their undoing. Guess it is worth investing money in a star kicker? Oh, but they all miss sometimes. Except Vinatieri.

Now the WRONG TEAM WON this game according to dem stats. The problem I think with this is that cheap passing yards when behind provide faulty facts to the fumilgating computer. Rams laughed at, Falcons move on.

Zero big gains for the Colts about says it all. Were they too conservative or just stymied? No matter, Patriots prove once again that they are the best. There is however a chance of a letdown against the Steelers -- WATCH OUT!

Eagles don't need T.O. and we should have known that since they got to the Conference Championships three straight times without him. No Way Vick does anything against Philly's Defense it says here.
