Have you watched a game and wondered if the Wrong Team Won? If the stats didn't show up in the final score? If cooking sherry can be drunk without the cooking part? Our bold adventurer Tim is here to answer all of these questions and more.

THE WEEK THAT WAS: NFL Week Three
With commentary by Tim

Be ready my mateys! Batton down the hatches, hoist the sails, and prepare to set sail for another wondrous journey into the vast oceans and unchartered worlds that beckon to us from this here National Football League...

Yo-Ho, Yo-Ho, a Pirate's life for me!

Hot off the presses, the early edition TMW play-by-play ratings for your perusal from the most recent week of this festive NFL season. For those new to the numbers read the following:

  • PSR: Play Success Rate - every play is graded as either a success or failure
  • Big: percentage of plays that went for big gains...10+ yards for a run, 20+ for a pass
  • Yds: adjusted yards per play, including penalties and excluding non-plays
  • EFR: Effectiveness rating. One number overall summary.
  • Stats Score: This is the projected score the TMW computer would have spit out if the stats for the game were the numbers coming in. This column lets us know who "should" have won.

Nice game for Mr. Vick but Buffalo has sacrificed the season to develop Losman...think where they could be with that defense, McGahee and oh I don't know, Drew Bledsoe!

The WRONG TEAM WON! Has the cunning Saban got his team buying into the mission at hand? The AFC East is ripe for the picking! Um, er, gee, I guess there is that New England squad to worry about.

Do I need to say more? Have I not already told you the Bengals are the best team in the NFL, that Super Bowl glories await? Enough said. Maybe the Power Rankings on this here site can reflect the reality I'm speaking.

Hum. This was not nice. Game of the Millenium was an earth shattering disappointment despite a stats score that was very close to my prediction. Fortunately I have a 'game of the Epoch' coming up in another week that I circled back in 1922 to bail us out.

We have the second confirmed sighting of the "last year playoff team that won't be making it back" condition. The Packers were the first, the Jets are the part deux. Jags win behind that toughie Leftwich. He's worth the money.

For a day it was all heaven in Minnesota. The main man D.Culpepper delivered the win and the homeless Saints continue on with their sixteen road game season. Was this just an aberration I wonder? Methinks the purple people will be sad more often than not in 2005.

Favre's tough finish, chapter three. Will he make it to the end of the book this time? That Williams kid already has a record and his career is only three games old. Good-O, eh?

Didn't he do well? Eli survived the first half looking like this was going to be one heck of a game. Then the game got away from the G-Men quickly in the second half. L.T. day and we knew it was coming.
