Have you watched a game and wondered if the Wrong Team Won? If the stats didn't show up in the final score? If cooking sherry can be drunk without the cooking part? Our bold adventurer Tim is here to answer all of these questions and more.

THE WEEK THAT WAS: NFL Week Six
With commentary by Tim

Be ready my mateys! Batton down the hatches, hoist the sails, and prepare to set sail for another wondrous journey into the vast oceans and unchartered worlds that beckon to us from this here National Football League...

Yo-Ho, Yo-Ho, a Pirate's life for me!

Hot off the presses, the early edition TMW play-by-play ratings for your perusal from the most recent week of this festive NFL season. For those new to the numbers read the following:

  • PSR: Play Success Rate - every play is graded as either a success or failure
  • Big: percentage of plays that went for big gains...10+ yards for a run, 20+ for a pass
  • Yds: adjusted yards per play, including penalties and excluding non-plays
  • EFR: Effectiveness rating. One number overall summary.
  • Stats Score: This is the projected score the TMW computer would have spit out if the stats for the game were the numbers coming in. This column lets us know who "should" have won.

Carolina is in stealth mode: not making enough noise to attract attention, but hanging in there ready for a late season push. Lions a QB away from being a good team.

The wrong team covered? Yep, doesn't have quite the same ring. Baltimore may be nasty, make that nasty-er than usual, the rest of the season. Course, without an offense that won't matter against good teams.

You may not have noticed, but I have. Tampa has a defense that harkens back to that Super Bowl year. Most points allowed this season is 16. The downside is that none of the teams they have played so far have winning records.

The WRONG TEAM WON! Here's a fun fact from this game, there were five fumbles and Kansas City recovered them all! That's the luck portion of the game in some folks eyes. I know if I was a defensive coach my main points of emphasis would be 'strip the ball' or hit so hard it gets knocked out, and 'tackle the guy for crying out loud.'

LaDainian is not content anymore to post the predictable one TD rushing every single dang game. No, now he wants to catch one and throw one all in the same game. How often has that been done? The Raiders "committment to excellence" doesn't ring so great when you're looking at a 1-4 team. Tough schedule is a factor.

Maybe I'm impetuous, but if I was the Houston owner, I'd be looking at making a coaching change. Last week's Seattle comment: "Is it just me or does Seattle have the look of a team that may go places? " runs again this week.
